purple striped jellyfish
The Purple Striped Jellyfish would make a great addition to the Coral Reef exhibit. They are easy to care for and very pretty animals that we think the public would enjoy watching. The jelly’s 100 gal. cylindrical tank should always be kept anywhere from 60 degrees Fahrenheit to 90 degrees Fahrenheit with a water salinity (total amount of dissolved material in one kilogram of seawater) of 30-34 ppt.
The Purple Striped Jellyfish has a body that can reach about 70 cm in diameter. This eye-catching jellyfish usually has about 8 dark tentacles with 4 frilly oral arms. The coloring of the jellyfish is purple; dark purple stripes over a lighter purple skin. A wide variety of zoo-plankton serve as prey for this beautiful animal including: fish eggs, salps, and larval fish. The Purple Striped Jellyfish can be found in the warm, coastal waters of California. These creatures are constantly in motion, either using jet propulsion or riding the current. |
